"The visual appeal of the kadee trumps the operational convenience of the legacy-controlled coupler."
So which three rail O gauge locomotives can someone buy that come with Kadee couplers already installed? Or does one have to not only replace the wheels as well as the couplers on the locomotives extolled above in order to operate them on traditional three rail track and deal with the profound allergy to traditional three rail couplers? And then it's neither scale nor traditional three rail, it would seem.
I'm not being intentionally obtuse but asking whether the original subject of this post, a three rail locomotive designed to operate in traditional three rail "manner," is actually a rather different critter than the scale wheel, scale coupler mostly sort of two rail locomotives being made by others. It seems to me it is quite different in intent and design.
The locomotive being enjoyed by the original poster is ready to run in traditional three rail manner. It's "scale-like" but operates like a traditional three rail loco. The locomotive being touted by others is perhaps a candidate for replacing the wheels to operate on traditional three rail track, and yet best served by having the couplers replaced in order to please those who break out in hives at the thought of a traditional three coupler. Sounds like what the Brits called "a dog's breakfast" to me, and likely to please no one entirely. Personally, I'm not interested in reworking my three O gauge locos so that they look like blown up HO models operating on three rail track.
Several of the posts here seem to more in the "let me rain on your parade" vein as well as answering questions that no one asked .
