Recently I read a CCT special magazine "100 Years of Toy Trains, Electric Trains from A to Z".  Under the letter K they had a write up on Kusan (also called KMT and Auburn and later maybe K-line) trains.  The article stated that Kusan got a few years on Lionel on marketing Military and Space trains.   Lionel did not market space train gear until the early 1960s

Kusan started in 1957 with the KF-110 Atomic Train shown below

Then came the KR-119 Satellite Train shown Below

The only Kusan car I have is the KMT 401098 USA Searchlight Car.  The body was also sold as the PA 224 Generator Car, Space Research Car or U S Army K 806.

Mine came without the searchlight and I installed a flashing light and a plastic dome and a light on the operator and have made it into an Atomic Generator Car shown below.

It was not often that a train company beat Lionel at anything.

Charlie,

Thanks for the post.  I have heard about Kusan tooling but I didn't really know anything about them.  Finding out they made two rails trains is a revelation to me.

In the picture above, I actually like the big red flashing light better than the searchlight!  In the satellite train photo, what does that load behind the engine say?  IT looks like Dynamic Injection Compressoritron?  It's that last word that is throwing me off, and it doesn't get any clearer when I zoom in!
