Step one: go to the box store, buy 4 sawhorses, and two flush door slabs. I use 36x80 because I use Marx 034 curves
Step two: set up sawhorses and lay slabs on top
Step three: add an oval of track, lockon, transformer
Step four: run trains
Step five: take all your junk out of the closet and set on layout

couple of quick vids of the second layout. Advantage of being old and single, I can set it up in the living room and never take the christmas tree down

And FYI, I like my "Everyday Tree" to be up year-round too. I don't hate the work of taking it down; I just miss it when it's gone. It makes me happy just seeing it every morning
