Just received my LCCA Coal Train set. It has a Reading Mine Co. Vulcan Switcher and has a operating hopper and a non-operating hopper with a coal load & a operating ETD. The Vulcan Switcher has custom window awnings and radiator cover similar to the LCCA Texas Special switcher. Hopefully the LCCA will release the new coaling ramp that will go with the set. They have had it at the York meet and I was impressed with it.

This is a very nice little set for being inexpensive.

The non-operating hopper that has the operating ETD which is powered by a 9 volt battery.

The only downfall that I see is that you do not have a switch to turn it on or off, so

you have to disconnect the battery to turn it off each time you use it.

Tampo printing has progressed a lot since the 1970's!! They now have custom shaped silicon print pads that can print over about anything!!          these units, all 3, do look good.

A nice finale' by Lou Caponi!  But Lionel made some boxcars about 20 years ago with end-of-train-devices that ran on track power.  This set-up with the battery & no on-off switch is quite a regression.  How does it look, though with one hopper having "real" Lionel coal & the other having a plastic cover?

I do know that Lionel  could not make the their trucks assembles with the power pick-up package in the space allotted.  That is why Lou went with the battery design.
