I currently am using a Legacy 990 Legacy control system with a Z-4000 transformer. Recently a railroad friend visited and noticed I have a Lionel TMCC PowerMaster control system but not using it. I have quite a few conventional engines and he suggested hooking it up and using it for non Legacy engines. So my question is, can I use all three of these items together without a problem? It would be an MTH Z-4000, a Legacy 990 controller and a TMCC PowerMaster all together. Any help is very much appreciated. Bill Park

No issues what so ever. Just keep the Z-4000 at 18 volts.
Nope, not without the PowerMaster Bridge. The TMCC PowerMaster receives it's commands directly from the original CAB1, the Legacy CAB1L or CAB2 talk on different frequencies, so they won't work with the original PowerMaster. If you replace that PowerMaster with the Legacy PowerMaster, you can accomplish what you seek.
Thanks for the help. So I need to order a Legacy PowerMaster what? A module ? What do I tell my Liopnel dealer to order for me? Thanks for the help!
LEGACY PowerMaster SKU: 6-37146
I found it on Amazon for $99.51 with free shipping (if you have Prime).
Thank you John
@Edward G posted:Did a deep dive into how this layout would run and found a lot of unnecessary stuff. Unless you plan to run multiple trains in a complex pattern, i.e. trains waiting at turnouts for other trains to pass, the plan can be simplified. You still can get from the mainline to the branch and back. Also fixed access to the yard.
Are you sure you intended to post in this thread? It just doesn't seem to fit!

fat finger, disregard the post...my appoligies...
Since the TMCC Powermaster does not require a TMCC base, might it be less expensive to pick up a CAB1 to use when running conventional engines?
Happy railroading,

The CAB1's are running as much as the Legacy Powermaster, clearly the Powermaster is a better long term investment. Also, the Legacy Powermaster has macro commands to run MTH PS2/PS3 stuff better than conventional transformer. It also offers smoother running with more speed steps.
But don't you need one Legacy Powermaster per electrical block? So unless I read the documentation wrong, if you have multiple blocks, you need multiple Legacy Power masters.

How is that different from using the old TMCC Powermaster?
There is no difference. I just thought it ay not be obvious and should be mentioned.
