I was looking at my base and noticed that the antenna did not have a wire sticking out like a coax connector. Is this correct?

Foxchaserr,
This is correct. The center conductor is on the base connector. If it is not you should have communication problems to the base. Have you had any comm problems?
Terry,
Just to be sure, I may have been seeing things but, I thought I saw the center conductor on the base connector not the Antenna connector. I will look again under my magnifier lamp. Edit: I checked and yes as there should be there is the female recessed receptacle for the male center conductor on the antenna connector and the original poster was concerned about the missing "male" or wire center conductor located on the base connector that inserts itself into the female receptacle on the antenna connector.
The RP-SMA is used on 2.4ghz WiFi antennas, so there is a huge variety available if you're thinking of upgrading the antenna.
