Two Legacy engines down at the same time with similar troubles.

Let's start with.........Legacy Conrail Lionmaster 6-28303

Bought and installed a new R4LC Radio Board (SO3 code).

No difference.........engine just sits there with no sounds and constant blinking cab lights (shell is off so more lights might be blinking as well).  No movement..........nothing.

I disconnected the smoke unit and fan motor but no difference.

Any help appreciated.

Thank You

Dave

Well, it could be the motor driver DCDS board.  Are you using the correct resets for this locomotive?  I happen to have that exact locomotive, and it has needed a reset a couple of times.

If your locomotive is unresponsive to your commands in the TrainMaster Command Control environment, we recommend that you follow this procedure to reset your locomotive.

1. Slide the Command reverse unit switch to the PGM position.
2. Plug in and connect your Command Base.
3. Place your locomotive on the track, then power up the track.
4. Press ENG and enter the locomotive’s ID#.
5. Press SET.
6. Press ENG and enter the locomotive’s ID# again.
7. Press AUX1.
8. Enter 2 for this particular locomotive.
9. Turn off track power and wait ten seconds.
10. Slide the Command reverse unit switch back to the RUN position.

At this point, your locomotive has been reset. Restore power to the track and operate the locomotive as usual. Be sure to use the ID# entered in Step 4.

I am not a Legacy/TMCC Technician, but, I would ask if it's under warranty, and secondly, have you called Lionel? If the engines are defective, Lionel will authorize a Return Authorization, RA.  Also, do you have a local Lionel Authorized Service Station?  I have a great relationship with the Lionel Customer Service Department and this sounds like a reason to give them a call. Thats my 2 cents worth.

Gunrunner is also a great authority on fixing problem engines. His diagnosis is usually right on Target.  Good Luck.

Thanks Larry

North of the 49th......everything goes to NC.

Engines are way out of warranty.

I only have 2 Legacy engines left and both of these have over their lifetime visited the Lionel Service Centre in Ohio.

They may be due for a visit to NC but I sure try to do everything I can first.

Shipping alone from here is $55 CND one way with insurance.

I have to say that my luck with Legacy has not been good.

TMCC may not have the bells and whistles that legacy has but they are just about bullet proof.

For these reasons, I have been enjoying the simplicity of TMCC and their dependability.

Thanks

Dave

Yes Marty

Engines bought new and parts bought new this month from Lionel.

Given the symtoms I described Marty........as a layman here.

I'm using a new radio board.....must have power so I assume the power board is good....sounds so the audio sound is okay.....only thing left as John thought....motor driver.  I took it out tonight and had a look.  All connections are in place and look good.  Do you think that might be it?

Thanks

Dave
