I have one of the original Pere Marquette Berks from around 2004 or 5.  It has RS 5, TMCC, etc.   I would love to get one of the newer Legacy Polar Express tenders to run with the berk during the holidays.  Will the Legacy Railsounds work with this berk or would I need to purchase a Legacy one?

I suspect it will not but not 100% sure.  I really do not want to drop over a grand on a engine I already own to just get the PE tender.  I could always get it and just change the tender shells during the holidays but I would love to hear that Legacy RS that goes a long with it.

Someone else purchased the Legacy tender to run with his non Legacy Berk and the Legacy Railsounds did not work. From what he said he expected a quilling whistle and other unique sounds but they did not work.

Yes, the PE tender shell is item #6911151T07.

Here is the thing though, you would need to look at the frame photos to see if the shell's mounting holes line up with yours...or someone here might know.  The shell is $225 from Lionel.

A possibility to get it cheaper...

Last year Lionel Parts had the open house for forum members and gave them 50% off any parts.  If you were unable to attend, you got 35% off online parts orders.  They announced a date for the open house for this year but I'm not sure if they are doing the discount.  I'm sure we'll find out soon.

With just a shell swap, you will be missing is the Polar Express conductor yelling "all aboard, this is the Polar Express".  You could probably purchase the sound module for the RTR Polar Express conductor car.

Unfortunately Lionel isn't just down the road from me anymore.  I pass by their old building daily.

You will not get Legacy features like the quilable whistle but at least for me it worked with the exception of the back up light.

So did the normal whistle work?  What about the chuffing and bell?   Maybe I need to find someone local with that tender to try it out myself.

I don't know if I ever realized you were from MI.    I'm sure we've crossed paths at a local show at some point.

I bet you could try any legacy steam tender with your TMCC engine to see if it works, not just the PE one (They all work the same way in most cases I believe).  Maybe see if your LHS (Wild Bills?) would let you try it out.

Yes not too far away, I wish the forum still showed your locations on every post. I had met some great forum members just by looking at where they are located.

As for trying myself, I actually do not have a Legacy locomotive yet. I do have the 990 Legacy command set.  I made a decision that as I build my layout I should at least put in the most advanced setup instead of having to re-do it later on down the road.

Yes, see my original post. Bell works when the bell button is pushed, whistle when pressed and chuff was 2 chuffs as that is how the loco is wired. The only issue was the back up light, it would come on but go out immediately.

And no tenders were harmed during this experiment.

I just meant that it may be easier to find just a regular Legacy tender locally to try out than to hunt specifically for the PE tender.
