I was able to get my hands on a 993 Expansion Cab2 controller recently.  I'm planning on ordering the Base3 and adding that to my layout to run my Lionchief, Lionchief Plus 2.0 stuff and also pick up a Legacy Powermaster for my conventional trains.

Now I know at this time my remote is useless since I don't have the 990 set which comes with the Base2 but I was watching the Lionel video on the Legacy Powermaster and noticed something interesting.  (video link https://youtu.be/gEVHZLeJdzQ) At about 10:15 the video mentions that the remote talks directly to the Legacy Powermaster, not to the base then the Legacy Powermaster.  Does that mean that if I had a Legacy Powermaster now I could use it to run my conventional engines using the Cab2 without the base2?

I have a follow up question on the above. Since I was able to just buy this new 993 set but I don't have a base2 or obviously base3, is there any way to test the remote to make sure it works? Just thinking that if lionel has limited parts to fix these now I'd like to try to test it and get it fixed if for some reason it doesn't work. I'm not sure how long this was on the shelf at the hobby shop I found it in. It was sealed in the box new when I got it.
