I'm looking to get some ideas to scratch build a engine facility & overhaul shop. Any photos are greatly appreciated along with where you bought your materials. I have a Lpwes and Home Depot close to me. Thank you everyone in advance.

Most of what we have used so far has come from Plastruct.

I am struck by the complete contrast between Alan's and Rich's facilities. Rich doesn't have any engines yet and Alan has so many that they can't move. I love them both.
Alan yours looks like when UP was storing engines in the last economic downturn. But you can never have too many engines in UP yellow.
Art
Rich, I like your facility. Where did you get the photo backdrops. I'm working on a Pennsy inspired layout and those look perfect. Thanks!!
You are correct Art...too many engines in the facility!! I love that yellow U.P. too much and like to just look at the different models. I need to put some of them up on the shelf to make the scene look better. I will eventually get around to finishing the concrete strips between the tracks and painting up and detailing the transfer table so I will work on "thinning" out that area sometime soon. My steam facility suffers from the same problem....too many locomotives. I think I have "Locomovitis"..
Alan
The roundhouse from four years ago, the roof was stick built and the side and front panels were from a 2 stall engine house.

Here is a diesel engine or car servicing structure made from styrofoam board.
The building has 2 through service bays and two stub end service bays.
This custom built O scale diesel shop or car shop is adapted from a prototypical diesel service building. This O scale model is a scale 100 feet wide by 80 feet long by 44 feet high. Actually two nearly identical buildings have been made. When placed end to end the two buildings are a scale 160 feet in length. Only the two center bays of each building are intended for through tracks. The two outer bays are stub ended. The model is designed to straddle two tracks with track spacing of 24 scale feet between centers. The model also has extensive interior lighting and detailing. All bays have simulated "roll up" doors. The side service entrances also have simulated "roll up" doors. The roof is removable for access to the interior. The interior has prototypical roof beams and heavy side pillars. The model can be completely dis-assembled for easy storage. The building is made from 3/16 inch foam board purchased from art stores. It is very light weight but also very sturdy.
Note: The photos show only one building although I have actually built two nearly identical structures which can be placed end-to-end to make a scale 100 foot wide by 160 foot long diesel house.

Hello to all , I have had several inquiries about my diesel shop castings
first thanks to all that have shown interest .
What I have designed is 2 different wall castings made from a laser etched master .
These are modular . The side walls stand 18 "high X 13.5 " wide , the front or door ends 15 " high and 13.5 " long . This is so you could make different size shops .
They will have laser cut windows with the flip out center window . There are also Strips to hide the seams where 2 pieces are joined , and even Mitered corners . The door pieces have room above the doors blank so you could mount operating roll up doors . If you have seen my engine shop at the NJ Highrailers , the doors go up and down powered by small gear head motors. I am finishing a large coaling tower and the next up is putting together this shop to show what can be done , the height is such that as in most real life shops there are overhead cranes and one could model that as well . I intend to do just that . So I will post photos of progress .
I also have machine shop machines for the shop also pictured .
This would be possibly offered in kit form , see photos below.

I constructed my train facility in a smaller area separated by a wall from my main track. It has the advantage of showcasing my engine facility and allowing to pick which loco I want to enter my main track through the wall.
Alan:
You need a little more yellow. I would suggest more UP engines. That should take care of this.
I have a weakness for yellow as well, Brian. Alan's engine facility quenches that desire.
A small area with lot of parts just sitting nothing secured yet because I can't make up my mind. I continue to read how members put one together for more ideas. I'm not trying to get it looking real just a little believable.
