I use a remote plug in switch control. I have my main power bar connected to a switched power plug and my TIU power and TMCC powered off of this main power bar. I also have the remote plug switch control plugged into this. And out put from here goes to a 2nd power bar that my track transformers are plugged into 180 and 135 watt bricks. I have the remote for this switch on a string around my neck. If there is a short on the tracks the Lionel TMCC direct lockon between the power bricks and TIU kicks the power off and it lights up red. I grab the remote around my neck and click the switch which then kills the power to the Lionel 180 watt bricks etc. and only this power is cut off the Wi Fi, TIU, TMCC remains powered on.

I wish that Lionel would make the Direct lockon circuit protector to trip and stay off till reset is tends to cycle the power on and off briefly till the short is cleared.  The whole set up is quite cheap and makes it easy to turn the power off quickly and prevent damage to your engines.
