Another beautiful tinplate holiday display!
I will not be putting mine up til Christmas, as for us it's a loop of 027 around the tree, alongside some classic models. A few years back, I created my own version of the polar express; 2 years ago, it was a 1666 with some streamlined PRR passenger cars; 1 year ago, it was my great uncles 2243 and the same passenger cars; this year will see the debut of my grandad's Marx 495, with the appropriate cars in tow.
here is my layout for 2015.. Large dogbone around two trees.. I made a tunnel out of wrapped packages and used grey velvet upholstery for base ground cover, roadbed, and tree skirts.

Christmas in the train studio
Merry Christmas to all
Not doing an indoor layout this Christmas, so am posting the tin plate layout I did in 2013 when SWMBO was off visiting the grandchildren for Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays!
Happy Rails!

The Tin Plate PCRR Christmas Layout is nearing completion, with the 263E Work Train, the 259 Work Train and the 249 ERR Work Train on the rails around the Christmas Tree.

Not exactly a photo of any layout exactly, but I thought it was worthy of this thread. Daddy with his new train, trying to rekindle a new/old tradition with my 2 year old daughter. We both really like this reproduction tinplate train.
KWQ,
Great Christmas Tin Plate Picture of Dad & Daughter! Shows how fantastic our hobby really is.

Short video of our Prewar Christmas display at the park on Saturday.
The kids loved all the old toys.
One guy asked me "how old are these trains?"
I said "they're pretty old"
He said "so like the 60's or something?"
not quite finished, need some lights for under the snow blanket.
the Parkers on the way home with their tree
The wishing well was Mom's
Uncle Jim's 2020
and the Tootsie Toy truck...Uncle Jim drove truck, over sized, or heavy loads. He hauled steel beams and bridge girders, sometimes into downtown NYC in the middle of the night. Or some large equipment. He collected International Harvester crawlers (red like the one on the lowboy)

Steamer,
David,
Your Uncles original Christmas layout is looking great, what a memory maker, real classic Christmas layout.
Brian L,
Nothing like Tin Plate on FasTrack, for a Christmas layout, fantastic stuff sir!

Why didn't you just give him a straight answer? How's someone not into the hobby supposed to know prewar tinplate from something made later?

Well I didn't just turn around & leave after that, if you'd like I can give you a full transcript on the conversation

I was originally going to use tubular track but the uneven tables were giving the 262 and 1681 a hard time on the curves, so I opted to use fastrack to avoid any mishaps.
Brian L,
It looks and runs like million bucks, good choice for the Tin, and if you want to add some FasTrack Command Control Switches in the future, all Tin runs great on them.

Layout, song, and video all came together for a nice presentation.

So not exactly tinplate or under the tree, but very much a holiday layout. My wife and I got to see the real Polar Express this past weekend in Owosso, Michigan. The Pere Marquette 1225 is the locomotive that inspired the children's book and film. The author, Chris Van Allsburg, is from nearby Grand Rapids. Not much snow with the 50 to 60 degree weather we have been having.

Not so much a Christmas layout, just a portion of the regular one. Folks from the right side of the tracks decided the trailer park on the wrong side had to go. In it's place is a temporary 4XL nativity scene!
It's a start.
