As an alternative to re-lamping many incandescent passenger cars and caboose, so that they will run on TMCC standard 18v, can a converter be installed like the one pictured and be used to cut the voltage to these cars? I’m thinking ~ 9-12volt range or less. I like the incandescent color of the light.

It won't help with the high current draw, and of course the light will still flicker.
A better way if you want a true incandescent look is to use amber or yellow LED strips, that way you can have all the look of incandescent and all the benefits of LED lighting.
I figured it might draw a lot of current. I guess the answer is warm white led’s with your passenger car lighting board. As always I need to find time to convert. Thanks for your input John! As always a pleasure.
Yep, the fact that you stick a switcher in front doesn't change the fact that incandescent bulbs suck down the power.
