I've done a search but haven't found the answer I am looking for; sorry if this is a repeat.  Is there a way to hook the building lights for Menards structures directly to a transformer or must the "wall wart" be used?  I would prefer not to have to plug in and remove a wall device.  Would the Miller Engineering converter work?  That can be hooked to normal accessory voltage.  The output is very low voltage for their signs.

Thanks,

See above thread.  I assume you're referring to the Miller 4804 converter.  Note that the eBay converter which is about 1/4th the price of the Miller converter requires a voltmeter to set its output to 4.5V DC.  Not everyone has a voltmeter - though you don't need anything fancy; the "free with coupon" Harbor Freight meter is just fine if you they are nearby.

If you are going for the least out-of-pocket and you have a voltmeter and can solder a few connection, you can get it down to about $2 on eBay using a bridge-rectifier and a DC-DC eBay voltage regulator module.  Just say the word and I'll give specifics.

If you have both an HF free meter and an HO power pack (DC output), I suggest you splurge and spend 99 cents on a DC-DC converter module from eBay (free shipping).  Set the eBay converter output to 4.5V DC using the meter.  There are hundreds of listings for these DC-DC modules on eBay (search for "LM2596 module"); I suggest you find one that has the larger capacitor on the input (look for the number 220 on IN side of the module, some are only 100).  Without getting into specifics of which HO power pack you have or how they work internally, I recommend using such a module to avail yourself of maximum power if you need 4.5V DC for your Miller, Menard, Lemax, etc. lighting applications.
