Newbie here. First let me say this is a great forum.
I recently got the Pennsylvania Rail Road LionChief set with the spotlight car. Having a lot of fun with it. But it started skipping chuffs and other sounds due to a loose connection between the engine and the tender, mostly on O36 curves. I bought it at a local hobby shop - Z & Z Hobbies in Falls Township, PA. Great staff, very knowledgeable, but it is a small general hobby shop not dedicated to trains. The set is under warranty so they will repair or replace it free, but it may take a week or so, and it looks to me like the connection may loosen up again later.
The connection is a square plastic hookup with 4 spring loaded connectors. Each has 2 wires going into the connector. I asked Z & Z about hard wiring the connection, and they said it would be very hard and it would be better to fix it under warranty.
Has anyone ever hard wired the connection?
