Hi All,
Today at a Flea Market in Mass. I bought a Lionel 1060 Columbia 2-4-2 w 1050t tender for a very good price. I also got a Lionel 6045 Cities Service tank car that is in great shape. I was pretty excited even for a low-end locomotive. The loco is in very nice shape but it has been sitting for a long time and is dirty. How do you recommend that I clean it? Do I just take some mild soap, warm water and maybe use a q-tip to get in the tough spots?

The tank car is kind of collectible. The 1060 sits at the bottom of the barrel. If the 1060 runs, it's a $25 item. The tank car is worth a bit more than the loco.
Take the shell off and you can wash it.
Q-tips are your friends, use mild dishsoap solution if needed.
Naptha for stubborn stuff, being mindful of inks/paint (though most dont mind it)
Oil, agitation, time, and repetition elimates all rust eventually.
