I am watching one of these on da-bay....it has been listed for a long time and now has a "make offer" in the post. I seem to recall an issue with gears in these locomotives. Can someone confirm or otherwise relate the quality of this locomotive?

The loco has a diecast metal body and is heavy - some people have managed to strip the nylon gear. Don't overload it with too many cars and don't make sudden starts/stops, and it should be OK. If you did manage to bust that, the chassis is the same as the NW-2 switcher and you could replace the nylon gear with a metal gear. I have the C&NW one and so far haven't had any problems. They are nice engines and sit prototypically low - unlike the MTH H10's (sit way too high).
