The green windows were noted above. But there is no explanation for them. Did the real Pacemaker cars have green windows? Did any passenger cars have them? If not, why would Lionel use them?
I don't know how I missed the release of this set. About the same time as this was released, I found a set of K-Line 18-inch Pacemaker cars that looks just as good in my opinion, and for a fraction of the price.

There was a period when Lionel didn’t issue 18” heaveyweights. When they started making them again they came without figures. I think part of the reason for the dark green windows was to hide the fact there were no figures. Weaver used the same technique for years until they started putting interiors in their cars at the very end.

I have been in real passenger cars that have green-tinted windows to reduce glare.
Thanks Pete and Palallin!
FYI, Lionel’s heavyweights made in the pre teen 2000s had tinted windows as well but nowhere near as dark as the current batch.
Also, I am with Bluecomet regarding the K-Line cars. Much nicer and a fraction of the cost.

The lettering is 'sans-serif' on one of the cars. That means that are no little lines on the ends of the letters. Those letters look sorta like block letters and the other ones have the little 'dashes' on the letter ends. Hope this is at least as clear as mud.
