just stumbled on a discussion about batteries on the Lionel forum. Apparently Lionel offers 2-rail battery powered trains now, for cheap. Doesn't say what gauge, but the ad does say "gauge" and then only describes O and S.

I think they're talking about Lionel's ready-to-play trains, which they've been offering for a while now. I think those would be closest to G scale, but I'm not quite sure.

The Lionel battery powered trains are really el-cheapo sets not to be confused with anything else Lionel makes. Probably made by a third party. They in no way compare to sophisticated battery powered train systems.
