Hey all,

I have been receiving questions from folks regarding the newly announced/cataloged UP Auxiliary Water Tenders in the 2014 C2 catalog.

Wanted to clear the air on what our plans are.

There will be two all yellow auxiliary tenders which are:

6-82394 UP Auxiliary Water Tender road number 907853 and 6-82395 UP Auxiliary Water Tender road number 907856

There will be one version made which will be yellow and have the American Flag which will be:

6-82396 UP Auxiliary Water Tender road number 809 ("Jim Adams" underneath the flag logo)

We recognize that the road number we are using on 6-82395 is the same road number we used on the auxiliary water tender we made in 2001 (6-28087). It is important to note that the UP never used these auxiliary water tenders in revenue service, so they never had a large arsenal of them, hence the limitations in road number selection. Because we are duplicating a road number done previously we are offering up two alternate numbers to allow folks an option when choosing to acquire a second or third auxiliary tender.

The models we are producing in early 2015 will be equipped with a Legacy receiver, allowing "Lash Up" compatibility with the UP Big Boy (if you lash up the older TMCC 1 tenders with a Vision Big Boy the remote will only operate the Big Boy in a TMCC 1 / Cab-1 operational mode, as a function of matching the operational modes in a lash up) so the rear lamps and coil couplers will be in sync between the Vision Big Boy and the Legacy Auxiliary Tender.

Hope this helps straighten out what we are doing!

Thank you,

Mike Reagan

For what it's worth, the two yellow auxiliary water tenders that the UP has used for many years are:

Road number UPP 809 "Jim Adams"  old road number 907856

Road number UPP 814 "Joe Jordan"  old road number 907857

Also, during the early thru mid 2000s, both aux tanks were completely rebuilt, and all the insulation covering from their turbine usage days was removed. They currently look more like their original "little 800s" steam locomotive tenders without a coal/oil space, and that is why the carry their original steam locomotive road number, i.e. 809 and 814.

Why would anyone want a black aux tank, when the REAL UP aux tanks are yellow?

Because, IMHO, it'd look better behind my Big Boy then a yellow one would.

Very true, but $3.99 vs $399.00

Only in yellow and only used with the FEF and Challenger in excursion service.

Besides, I read somewhere the tapered ends have been squared off.

Tenders look different today.

The Lionel BB will be as delivered, open cab, coal fired with exposed cooling pipes.

The outdated tapered yellow water tender hauled behind the as delivered BB is pure fantasy.

It will be interesting to see if the MTH BB in the next catalog is oil fired with whistle steam..
