I was thinking of picking up the new MTH NYC light mikado, until this catalog.  Now Lionel has one listed in the new catalog with whistle steam but at 1300.00 hhhmmm.

My only concern when ordering Lionel.  Are we going to get what is advertised in the catalog (latest switcher that didn't have Legacy, ESE Hudsons with incorrect drivers than what was listed in the catalog).

Nothing I really must have.

I remember when the S2 electric was released a good 10+ years ago. I thought it was the coolest thing then. I will keep a close eye on it when it comes out. That Prewar set is pretty cool also...

Based on lots of recent chatter here about not getting what was cataloged, I will take a "wait and see" approach.

Would be nice to see some variety in LC+ loco roadnames.

I escape with no damage on this round.

The premium offerings of steam are shrinking. Lionchief and custom printed rolling stock is growing.

That direction doesn't offer me much.

I believe someone predicted this about 3 weeks ago.  Less Legacy more LC and LC+.

The S2s and S2 prewar sets are cool.  Not my cup of tea but still neat.  $800 with a swinging bell to boot.

I have a midwestern Wisconsin interest in trains, and I always look for the Milwaukee Road offerings.  The Milwaukee is my favorite road name.  I really didn't see any new motive power offered.  As for freight cars, only see the Milwaukee Hopper as a new offering.

I can't say that I'm disappointed however,  I have been waiting for Lionel to offer any SOO LINE motive power with Legacy.  I have slowly collected some scale size SOO freight cars over the years, and waited for a nice SOO LINE engine with Legacy.  I like the SD60m.  Finally!  I will have a nice SOO freight train to run.   I will place an order with my dealer for one of those, perhaps both road#'s.

I like the C&NW mill gondola's, a nice offering for that road name.

As for the ready to run book, I listened to the Notch 6 podcast.  Meegan was discussing the Shell station.  She was right, It really looks good!  I would like to get one.   Its really good to see Lionel decorating and assembling freight cars in the USA.  I do try to add some each year.

The catalog is great, I will look more closely this week.  The Prewar Inspired S2 electric set is really cool!  I like the cool artwork on the cover of the American Flyer book, ...very retro

The Soo Line Locomotives are what I'm most happy about despite not see any Milwaukee Engines.

I like the direction they're going with the 6-car sets.  I'm on the fence for the UP PS-1 6-car set.  I'd have already made the call If it was the earlier white with yellow "serves all the west".

Just the same given all the big steam they've rolled out lately, I'm pleased they are now offering larger car packs.

Should be interesting to see the amount of orders on the LC+ SD60M. Certainly seems like a feeler toward the future of Legacy, especially since Legacy SD60M are listed side by side.

It would be nice if they stopped with the rotary coal gondolas for a while and brought back the Rotary Coal Dumper accessory!!!!!!!

After seeing the full-pagespread of rotary gondolas in this catalog, I was sure the accessory section would have the rotary coal dumper.  But not to be!!!    I recall Mike Reagan mentioning that Lionel is having a challenging time finding a Chinese factory that would commit to building it.

Maybe the Alcos from the green passenger set, if someone offers them broken out from the set.

I have a feeling the quest for those as set break ups will be quite popular. I'm going to get the full set with the Alcos but given the premium prices the original PW green cars fetch on the open market the remakes will be in demand.

I have the Great Lakes Express Service Station set and hope to use the Alcos with those cars. You may be right though - maybe smart to buy complete set and try to to sell the cars.

Catalog is hoo hum.  The only thing I liked in there is the logging add ons.  There is 4 pieces made up of one truck each and they look pretty cool.

Other then that a big nothing for me.  Too expensive and what gets me is they come out with road names for engines, example of Reading & Northern but then there is no rolling stock, maybe a caboose but that's it?.  Whats up with that?

Also I see the same beer cars from last year where is the Ol Mil car,  Black Label, Miller Lite, from the earlier series?

Seems like something is happening there at Lionel?

MARTY E. I think your on to something.

My wallet is safe this year, no new interesting steam.  I only bought 1 engine last year (Hesiler).  Looks like 2000.00 is the new standard list price for large steam engines.  I have almost everything in one form or another.  So looks like nothing until Vol 2 comes out late in the year.  Seems like signature is getting cut back and they are going for the ready to run market.

Caveat Emptor, don't order. Wait until the product comes out to see whats actually delivered. Theres ALWAYS extra.

Interesting to note, Lionel shows the correct high mount headlight on the PRR version.

The last time Lionel offered these, the Pennsy headlight was incorrectly mounted in the center.   The GN version got the high mounted headlight and I think it was supposed to have been in the center.

I bought one of those ESE hudsons with the wrong drivers, should have grabbed one of those beautiful PS3 J1e's instead.

Hmmm wonder who that was? Must have been someone "in the loop".  I just may have to venture into DCS land after all, TONs of scale steam, at more reasonable prices.

Those "throw away" trains will certainly take the pressure off of Lionels service dept.

I'm probably pretty safe on Signature.  The disconnect cars and possibly a UP camera car (though my set is 18", so it won't really be a great match, even if the paint scheme is close).

Then I opened the RTR... My habit of collecting Disney and Strasburg stuff could add up significantly here.

I like the mouse ears water tower, even if it would have been nicer if it looked more like the now removed "Earful Tower" from the Hollywood Studios park (I know tooling would have been too costly for a one shot item). The starter set discussed in the podcast with the add-on ears and tail doesn't do anything for me though, so I'll skip that.  I hope it makes kids interested in trains though.

Also a few other items I liked in RTR.  The return of a dual plane WWII pylon should be popular.

No "in the loop" information here. Not even close.  It was a gut feeling.  It's one catalog so I'll hold judgement.
