Need some help. I'm not familiar with pre war trains. A friend of mine is giving me three sets, all with boxes. One set is a loco with freight cars. The loco is numbered 2224. I cannot find any reference. The tender is 2224t. Freight cars are 2652,2654,2657, and 3651. Can anyone tell me what set this is? I know the numbers are correct because it has all the boxes. The other Lionel set is a UP 636w with passenger cars and an American Flyer set with a tender number 1021. No number on the loco.

The loco is a 224E with a 2224T (or "W") tender the make up of cars tells me set # 143 or 143W (If whistle) from 1939 or so.
assuming yellow and brown on the 636W it is set 299W made 1936-1939 commonly called "City of Denver" since that is the UP train set modeled.
need more info on the flyer.
Rob, the engine is stamped 2241. Is it still a224e?
There is no Prewar 2241. Prewar steam had 3 digit numbers. There was no postwar 2241 either. Maybe custom number?
Vinny, A picture would really help!

Are you sure that the "1" is not an "E"?
I just sent you a picture. Take a look.
How about putting the picture here, where we all can see it?
I would love to but don't know how to do it.
