Considering a Lionel 226E and saw several for sale at auction. Anyone have advice as to how they run. I’ve seen some sets including the engine and I’m considering them. What’s a reasonable price for the engine in C7 condition. What about the sets offered.

They run great if they are not worn out. Similar motor to the post war 675.

One of the best running prewar semi scale engines Lionel made. Most all major parts can be found if needed. The boiler tooling became the 726/736 Berkshire after the war. Just as the 225E became the 675/2025/2035 in the post war years. Both 226e and 225e are great runners. AD
This is my favorite engine because it runs so smoothly. I have had perhaps 30 of them over the years and never had one I could not get to run in 5 minutes.
