Lionel 455

I assume you have a newer 455 oil derrick....if so, put up the item no. or a picture of it. 

Where would I find the number. The board has capacitors and resistors and 1 bonding post on the board.

I think the unit is a post war with a updated circuit board. I measured voltage getting to the coil. Is there a test for the coil

Just apply voltage to the coil and see if it works. Most likely it's not the coil but your circuit board or part of it...

I applied voltage to the coil and arm went down. I just purchased a new circuit board and didn't matter. Maybe I'm wiring it wrong?

There are only two wires so I don't think you are wiring it wrong.

Circuit board has 1 bonding post. Platform has 1 binding post. Wire from light goes to circuit board binding post. Wire from coil goes Where? The 2 wires from transformer get hooked up to where?

what voltage are you trying to operate the derrick at?

I have a modern oil derrick with the circuit board, Ill snap an up close picture of the wiring from underneath so you can compare....I'll do it after I get home from supper with my wife....

hope this may help, the two red wires are for the coil. the light is hard wired to the binding posts....

My circuit board is a 201246 Rev A

The one you have is a early version of the electronic control board. Your derrick should be item 2305. If you fallow the trace on the circuit board, the large spot of solder that leads to the binding post is where the lamp wire gets soldered to. Now if you look directly right of that spot and see another large solder spot on a different trace, this is where the coil wire gets soldered to. Now for mounting the board, if you have the MPC 2305 oil derrick it will have tabs that hold the circuit board in place that go through the 2 cut outs on the board. This is the ground connection for the circuit board. The copper trace around the board is ground. The metal tabs must touch this trace, that is why one side has solder on it, it was tack soldered to the tab that holds it in place. If you have a postwar 455 derrick, you will need to solder a jumper wire on the trace where the solder is and solder it to the metal base near the binding post on the base.  Now with the circuit board in place on the derrick, you may need to use double sided sticky tape, the transformer wire connect to the one binding post on the circuit board, the other on the binding post on the derrick base. Post note, after looking at your pictures again, the frame appears to have the mounting tab for the circuit board. 2305 Getty Oil

Chuck thank you for the instructions. I'll try it. My frame actually has a name plate and it says 455. Sunoco Oil.
