Is there any issues using this switch manually? By this I mean just turning the lantern by hand to switch direction. The switch is just used for that's rarely used. I see no need to connect constant voltage to it. Any advice or comments are appreciated.

There should be no issues using that switch manually. However I have experienced a burnt out or shorted out wire inside that model of O gauge switch, Lionel did not use a proper size wire on the inside of that type of switch.
Not sure of the 5133 switch uses an auxiliary power plug(like the post war 022 switch) or not if it does insert the plug with no wire on it and that should cut power to the switch solenoid.
