Pick up rollers, front and rear, shorting out on metal axles. There is a band of black insulation on the axles but they slide back and forth exposing bare metal and shorts out. Is there a solution without removing/replacing the axles? Can the spring loaded pick up be adjusted? Would appreciate suggestion or solutions.

Can you post a picture. The roller shouldn't be contacting the axles.
Do they look like these? Looks like it could only be the innermost axles. Please post a picture of what your axle looks like. Does the pickup rise too high? Can't see how a constantly rubbing insulator wouldn't eventually short out.
