Basically a clone of the Harry Potter engine. I have the HP, but missed this one when it came out. The HP front truck did have issues tracking on 036 curves and required some tweaking in order for it to run well.
Gilly, I saw that issue on the Lionel website and there was a video on it to fix it. I know there is a green one issued too.

My sons HP engine side rod broke, But Lionel had the part and got it to me for a few bucks and where very quick.
In short, it's a nice runner for the money. Michael out grew the set, he is in college now and we all know how that story goes. I guess it's up to pop to pull the set out and let her stretch her legs a little.

I have had this exact loco since it came out. The green version was released the following Christmas. I use it annually with no problems. To what issues do you refer?
I bought one last Christmas. It ran real smooth on the O36 fastrack.

The Victorian Christmas set had the Lion Chief remote .
I missed that set .

So, what problems are you having Charlie??
RadionRon,
I don't have one yet. I'm considering purchasing one if I see one. The forum is a great resource for finding out info on different engines.

Charlie,
I would not mind picking one up myself are they LC or LC+, Legacy or what? I could use another Christmas Train Engine!

Pine Creek,
The one I asked about is conventional only & so is the green one. The Victorian Christmas (red/black) set is Lion Chief.

I also have the red one and usually pull the complete reindeer passenger train with it. No problems. I do recall some giving it a bad review when it was first released, but those individuals were trying to pull too much. I've also run up to about 12 Christmas freight cars just fine. Has some delicate parts, so not for rough handling.

Gotchya, Charlie! I would highly recommend it. It is a lot beefier than the locos that typically have come with Lionel's Christmas starter sets. I think it does pull pretty well, also because of the heft. I agree with Railgon's mention above about it having some delicate decorational parts. But that is fine with me. They add detail & I don't have any small kids handling it. The lighting is all LEDs & very nice looking. Air whistle in the tender has the old-time Lionel feel.
