I recently purchased legacy 990 & 993 control system new in sealed boxes shipped in 2016. My question is , should I worry about charging the batteries in the base. System is version 1.6. I have heard of possible overheating and problems with some sets. Thank you for any replies.

There was an issue with the charger many years ago, but it affected earlier production runs.
Most likely the original batteries in the box are beyond use and should be replaced with new rechargeable batteries. Alkaline batteries can also be used, but the charging circuit must be turned off using the switch on the underside of the base.

You shouldn’t expect to have any issues with the charger.
