I have the #993 Expansion Remote. The remote itself works fine. However the base unit (which is basically a charging unit and base) has stopped charging. When the adapter is plugged in and the charger is on, the lights on the sides of the base unit go dim and just dual red blinking lights appear. It will not charge. I have tried changing the rechargeable batteries. So the only way to charge my remotes is through my 990 base. Is there a way to fix my 993? I looked to see if I can take the unit apart and look for loose connections inside, but cannot figure out how to get into the base unit. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I also checked the adapter which plugs into the base and that is ok.

If I am not mistaken, Lionel provides lifetime service and support for the Legacy system
Lionel fixed mine which was several years old...
I got a used 1 at a show, it failed, all it cost was shipping, $10 I mailed it LOL! Fixed like new now. UPS back also free. Don't know or care how old.
Standing policy is Legacy systems are repaired for the cost of getting it there.
Lionel fixed one of mine; however, it has failed again and I just use regular double A's with electrical tape over the contacts. The unit is very sensitive to the correct type of rechargeable battery (I do not remember the number or type) and the contacts need to be secure. Pulling out the Positive contact to increase the pressure might fix the charging issue.
I use Duracell, Eneloop Pro, or Imedion NiMH with no future issues since it was repaired.
