Because a whole new generation of Polar Express owners have just been created, I've created a short video on how to access the light-bulbs and wiring in a Lionel "Baby Madison" type passenger car.  This video only applies to the cars built between 1974 and the present, that do not have detailed interiors.

I hope this helps someone out there!

That's great information, but it would help a lot to show a close-up of the special windows with the locking tapers, to help understand what holds them together.

I happen to have those earliest versions of 1973-74 cars which you didn't talk about, and I had to figure out for myself that certain tabs need to be cut with a knife to remove the roof. I had those cars for some time before I got the clues about removing the roofs!

Another issue with my cars, they have cardboard inserts that prevent the interior lights from making the entire carbody glow. The cardboard inserts sometimes slip out of place and cover the windows, which was my reason for wanting to open some of them.
