Hello Guys. I need a bit of advice. For Christmas this year, I was given a 726 basket case to restore. It’s pretty much complete, as near as I can tell, so far, but came without its tender. I thought the 2426w tender was the correct mate for it, but I’ve also seen them for sale with either a 2046w or a 2671w tender. And there might be other combo variations. So, the question is, WHICH would be the absolute CORRECT Tender for the 726? (And, btw, this 726 is the early version with the Baldwin Disc Drivers) Thanks in advance.

The 2426W tender is the correct tender for the 726 Berkshire. You can replace it with the modern 19833 tender; it's a 2426W tender with sounds and is more readily available.
Depends on the 726. The 726 was replaced by the 736 in 50 with the advent of magnetraction. During the Korean War, the 736 lost its magnetraction ( a critical war material ) and thus the 736 became the 726RR and some were just numbered 726. The 726 re-run during the Korean War era would’ve had the 2046W type plastic body tender.

Thanks, Pat. Is there a way to determine the exact one I have?

Will do, once I get the locomotive rebuilt.
The 1952 version is numbered 726RR. It also has spoked sintered iron drivers instead of nickel rimmed baldwin discs and should have a 3 window cab.
Ah, Thanks, Ryan. That does help. Mine is the older version just lettered 726, and has the Baldwin Disc Drivers instead of the spoked ones.
Yep, looks like I’ll need to find 2426W Tender to make it complete. Thanks everybody, for all your good advice.
The early 726 had its "Pick-up plate" (wrong name but) mounted through ceramic insulators to insulate pick-up plate from the chassis.
736 and 726RR did not have these.
Very good. Thanks, John…I’ll check for those insulators.
