I found this incredible video on Youtube of a trio of Big Boys pulling a "scale" mile long train on the SYVRRy.  I searched the forum and did not find the video but I may have missed it.  When I tried to imbed the video I got a message that it could only be played on Youtube.  Apparently that means that it can't be imbedded and played on the forum.  The video also show what can be accomplished with a 3-rail on a garden railway.  I hope that you enjoy it.  NH Joe

My congratulations to anyone who can run a 100 plus car train.  It requires good track with large curves, smooth running engines, and good equipment.  I find that a few couplers break or open when I try to run a train of 20 or more cars.

Another SYVRRy video mentioned that the minimum curve is O-90 and that the Tehachapi Loop is a       2 1/2 percent grade.  I think that successfully pulling any 100 plus car up a steep curved grade is a real accomplishment - prototype or model.

The prototype photos that I have seen of the real Tehachapi Loop usually show 4 or more diesels struggling to get trains over the grade.  The SP usually used several cab forwards in steam days.

I have visited the real loop three different times but I have never a train running over it even though I waited several hours each time.
