Ok I have got a Lionel C420 command that was in a consist with another C420 due to a over zealous 32 pound Tom Cat we had a derail of epic proportions. The traction tires came off and got wedge between the wheel and side frames. I can see how to get the side frames off but can not access the screws without dropping the truck. How do you get that truck and motor to come down to access the side frame screws?

That is some Tom Cat, he probably made short work of that train? That's BIG!

If I remember correctly, you'll need to loosen the roller pick-up mounting screw from underneath the truck. It threads all the way through the truck to the motor. Once removed, you can separate the truck to get access to the sideframe screws.
I hope this helps.

I did take the pickup roller off and still can not get it to pivot around to drop out. Thanks anyway.
You might need to give it a good wiggle once you removed the pick-up roller. I can't think of any other screws that would be holding it on.

A lot of the Lionel/Atlas Chinese production trucks also have a screw that goes from the top of the truck down into the truck block that holds the motor mount in place. You need to access that as well as removal of the pickup roller.
I guess I should have asked... which C-420 is it? I know the trucks were redesigned.
