I have a conventional layout with postwar ZW transformers running my separate loops. Thinking about doing one loop with command control. I already have 12866/12867 and 12868 which I bought years ago. Question I had, will these work with a Lionel 6-28072 NYC Odyssey equipped locomotive.

Sure, they're from the same generation as the Odyssey I locomotive. Your TMCC set will run any TMCC or Legacy locomotive. It may not access all the fancy features, but all the basic running operations are available.
Since you're getting into command control and already have conventional locomotives, you might want to invest in a few Legacy Powermasters (one per loop of track; yes, the new PMs will work with the TMCC Base/Cab 1), and you can run all your trains with TMCC, including conventional ones. Plus, the PMs have circuit protection which is a good thing. You will also need a Lionel Power Adapter Cable (item #6-12893) for each PM.
Great, I just want basic, smoke/ whistle and chug sounds. The older Railsounds just don't sound good to me anymore. What hearing I got left. If i can get my Cab-1 to work. May have to get some batteries. My smoke unit on the NYC 28072 quit working . So I will have to see what is wrong with that. Thank you John for your reply.
Thank you Dylan. I do have the power adapter cable and one Powermaster. I will try one loop for now and see how it goes.
As pointed out above.....
I looked up the numbers:
6-12866- is the powerhouse transformer- constant 18V output 135W
6-12867- is the powermaster- the device used to vary output voltage of the above power house, using a CAB1 remote.
6-12868 is just the CAB1 remote, not the TMCC base.
You did not mention a base 6-12911 http://www.lionel.com/products...ommand-base-6-12911/
It could just be an oversight, but you then would not have a full (CAB1 and matching TMCC base) to actually have TMCC Command Control.
Yes, using the powermaster and CAB1, you could control the train in conventional mode- just as if you were using a transformer handle control- but that is not full features of TMCC.
If you had multiple TMCCC engines, I would be trying to find a matching TMCC base 6-12911

Again, technically, you are not doing a loop with command control (AKA full TMCC). You are doing a remote control conventional loop with a powermaster. Not quite the same thing.
That was an oops, I thought he had the command base!
I forgot to mention that. I do have the 12911 that I bought when it first came out with the other items. Thanks for the replies.

In that case, for command control of that engine, you can use your existing ZW and wiring, just the base to common U and the CAB1 remote. 1 wire and done.
