Hello All,

Looking for some advice as I’m setting up my Lionel LionChief Christmas train and having some issues with the Fastrack.
There are about three areas on the route where the train slows down to a crawl —or even completely stops with all the lights turning off —- before suddenly turning back on and taking off again like a speeding bullet …almost like it’s building energy in pauses.

I went around with a meter and everything seems to be fine, although a couple of times it took a couple of tries to detect a connection.

I’ve set up the ‘deluxe’ track layout, which only calls for one plug.

Could these pauses be due to bad track pieces/wires?  If so, how do I know which piece could be the issue?
I’m just out of ideas at this point.

Thanks!
Holly

I think it either poor connection or build up of grime on the rails.

Try cleaning the rails.  In order of least to best: Dry cloth, cloth with alcohol, cloth with track cleaner.  While you're at it, clean the metal wheels on the engine in contact with the rails and the roller contact on the engine as well.

Pull the track up, clean the connectors points, and carefully reconnect the track.

My two cents.

I was recently having some issues with a few locomotives stalling out in portions of my medium sized (9x12) Fastrack layout. I have plenty of power drops but the issue for me was dirty track, wheels, and pickup rollers. After cleaning track with paper towels and 91% IPA and wheels/pickups with a wire brush in my Dremel tool, trains are able to crawl through sections that were problematic before.

You can find lots of threads about cleaning track and locomotive wheels/pickups. I didn't think much of it before but I'm a believer now!
