I have a Lionel Hudson (6-28065) with TMCC and Rail Sounds. The cuffing sound is not working anymore. All I get is a couple of chuffs when the engine just starts out. I still get the crew talk, whistle, bell and the sounds of the engine at rest. I tried reprogramming the engine with the TMCC like it says in the manual and changed the battery in the tender and made sure the switch under the tender is set to rail sounds and the switch under the engine is set to run but nothing made a difference. Any ideas?

There is a cherry switch that is depressed as the wheel rotate to signal the chuff. If may be loose or has failed. May want to be sure it is aligned correctly, maybe press the lever a few times to clear any debris. G
That was it! The lever that pushes the switch was a little worn and was not pushing far enough to active the switch. A little adjustment and it works great. Thanks GGG.
I am having the same problem with my Lionel 6-28065 Hudson. Can anyone tell me exactly where the cherry switch and lever are located?
Yes, it's on the right side of the engine right behind the front driving wheel. The switch is not the problem. There is a little lever that activates the switch that is connected to the wheels and the smoke unit plunger. The lever was just not pushing the switch down far enough. I took a small piece of clear tubing that was just big enough to snugly slide over the lever. It makes the lever a little bigger in diameter so it pushes the switch down farther. I did take the engine body off the frame by removing the 4 screws that hold it on. Makes it a lot easier to see and work on. After the body is off you can put it on the track and with a small screw driver push the switch down and hear the chuffing sound.

Thanks a lot Joe. I will check that out and see if that works for me.
