I just received and opened my MIB sealed Lionel Century Club S-2.

Man...the excitement of opening it with all of it's classy packaging and the care Lionel took with packaging it, so it floats on the card board packaging inside etc.

And "Made in USA"!

Although, I thought the certificate was kind of wimpy, the blueprints were awesome.

I was surprised to see no Century Club catalogs or brochures in it though.

The case is beautiful, but I cannot find the little plaque that goes on it?!?

Also, there is no manual.

"Lionel is/was a Class Act"

From my chair, they started this whole O-Gauge thing and through the good and bad years, they are still here supporting our hobby. Their sound systems are the best in our industry. Many, like me, believe that Legacy is also the best in the industry. They are by today's standards the innovators that lead the way.

Add this all up, and they still are a "class act". Do the other manufactures in our industry add to our enjoyment, sure and are most of them a class act as well, I would also say yes.

In short, we have never had it so good despite some of the recent belly aching.

Yep, the plaque was under the styrofoam in the engine box and the manual in the engine box.

I was surprised how small the loco was, but that is ok, because I was afraid it might be too big!

I have two bent dog bone loops, and an around the wall oval, which equal three seperate levels, and I have resigned myself to the fact that Post War sized (O-27) trains like this S-2 are the perfect size, including those O-27 passenger cars for my bedroom sized train room.

O-27 looks good, 15" passenger cars look good, but 18" or larger passenger cars I feel look too big on O-42 curves.

My scale F3's are fine with any size, but look better with 15" or larger cars, whereas my PWC F3's look good with 15" or smaller in my opinion.

My scale MTH Premier NYC&HRR 4-4-0's look fine and are scale, as are its cars, I guess because they were not as big in real life as say a streamliner car.

You are lucky you have a basement!

Wish I had one of any size.

I do have three 3 track visible staging areas and am trying to add a fourth, despite the layouts small/med size.

Well said, and I totally agree with this. I also try to point this out all the time. I re-entered the hobby a little over 3 years ago and I am still amazed at the O gauge trains and everything else available today in O gauge compared to 35-40 years ago. Overwhelming! For all of you that have been in the hobby all along, it may not seem like it, but from my view it is still a little bit un-believable. Sometimes I still think I'm dreaming!
