Just purchased H10 from a reputable eBay seller. The first time I ran the engine on tubular track powered by a KW post war transformer, with LC app on iPhone, the unit performed as expected with all features working, except I noticed a slight but consistent “surging” or “jerking” when run at slow speeds. Once I increased throttle on app to half, jerking stops. Seller explained, before he shipped the engine, that he had run the locomotive in conventional mode at slow speed using LC app on an Android phone, and no jerking or surging was present. When I questioned the seller further, he suggested that it could be something regarding Bluetooth or power surges coming from the transformer ….had I installed “diodes” in my circuitry. He also suggested that I consult this forum. Has any one had any similar experience with a 2018 Legacy engine when running on conventional power with the LC app?

Send it back, there's something wrong with it. I have several of the 2018 H10 locomotives, they run just fine on the LC app or with full Legacy command.
Actually, I doubt it's the circuit board, your description sounds like mechanical binding. Not many locomotives that price that came with the swinging bell, it was a bit of a surprise when they released that one.
I suspected that engine was hard to come. Is it anything someone with a decent level of mechanical skill could further troubleshoot or attempt to repair? If it’s mechanical binding, any idea of what the cost of an out of warranty repair would be through Lionel?
Hopefully the mods will cut you some slack, or move the thread for you, before it goes poof. We’ve identified this H10 as potentially having known gear box issues a couple of years ago. Key word, potentially. Many mechanical factors can cause binding, and or jamming resulting in a stutter, or jerky movements. Look at all side rods & valve gear for anything bent, or rubbing. Look at brake shoes rubbing against a rubber traction tire. Lastly, could be loose motor mount screws inside the boiler. Always look for the simple explanations first, before condemning the locomotive.
