I recently purchased my first Lionel Legacy engine (NKP light mikado #587) and upgraded my DCS system per the Addendum To DCS WiFi Companion. I now am able to access the Lionel Legacy sound features including the quilling whistle.  I am having trouble with a select few sound features on my iPad device, however.

When trying to trigger the Water Loading effect (command 3), it only plays momentarily and shuts off. Is there a way to extend the sound effect?

When trying to trigger the Coal Loading effect (Aux 1, 0), I hear a single bell ring only, indicating that the engine was reset and no coal load sounds. Holding the ‘0’ for three seconds per the engine operating manual has no effect.

When trying to activate the Autmatic Sequence Control, holding Aux 1 for 3 seconds does not produce the ‘ding-ding-toot’ effect indicating the feature has been activated per the operating manual.

Is there a way to activate these features that I am missing or are they not available?  If there was a prior topic discussion that I missed in my previous searches on this forum let me know or please provide a link.  Thanks in advance to those that can shed further light on these features.

Hi.  While pretty thorough, our Legacy implementation is not comprehensive.  We attempted to provide most primary operating capabilities with our first release.  That said, we are aware of some issues we would like to resolve.

Further, it seems our app is a bigger hit with Legacy/TMCC operators than we expected and so, we intend to expand the apps capabilities.  We're working on defining the scope of this expansion and will update this forum as we begin making progress.  We have more to learn about the nuances of Legacy control.  There are mysteries even to those very close to the system.  We'll unravel them.  It just might take a little time.  Ultimately, the DCS app will be simply the best way to run your Legacy and TMCC railroads.

So this is done through the MTH app/Wi-Fi and the legacy 990 base connected?  So effectively able to control Legacy functions via one app?  Makes me more intrigued to get Legacy.

Yes.  While as MTH RD has stated not all are currently working, it's on their radar.

Releasing the Legacy protocols was a pretty smart move by Lionel.  They'll sell more Legacy bases, because it's required to operate Legacy engines even with the DCS app, and more Legacy engines than ever.  LCS iPad app is still an excellent layout control system so that wouldn't suffer as the MTH app cannot do what it does.  The only downside would be their own iCab app sales.

MTH wins as well because Legacy folks who embrace the app technology and might not have wanted another remote to carry around might buy a DCS and WIU system if they find a PS 2/3 engine they have to have.

In general I think both companies end up on top.

Enabling the sequence control feature requires that the AUX1 command is sent repeatedly while the button is held.

We'll take a look at that.  It's important to know we aren't breaking something else by sending aux 1 continuously when the button is held.  Also, there is some specific rate at which it must be sent, I'm sure.  We can find that by checking cab 2 behavior.

Again, this will likely be part of an expansion effort so, hang in there and give us a little time.

MTH RD  . Can we get the feature reset fixed and also have the option of engine direction on start up?

Hi Gregg.  I know it's been a while but, we are circling around and looking at enhancements to the app for Legacy control.  I am looking for more info on some of these requests.  So, for direction on start up, how is that implemented currently?  Do the engines remember a "start up direction" setting or, is this an option on the cab2?

Essentially, anything you can clarify about "how" it works would be helpful.

Thanks.

Hi Rudy.  Just getting back to this.  So, if the user presses AUX1-3 or, whatever value, the command repeats at some interval while the "3" is held (using my example)?  What is the rate or interval the commands are sent?  Is this true for all AUX1-1 through 9?  What about the AUX2 commands?  Similar behavior?
