These seem to be showing up at shops online and I did watch a great review of the NPR one on YouTube. I was wondering if anyone else picked this steam engine up yet and your opinion on it.

I’m close to pulling the trigger on the Santa Fe version.

Old post I know.

Got the Southern version for Christmas.

I sent it to be Lionel to be repaired for the following reasons out of the box.

1.The smoke unit had a wheezing sound and didn't chuff smoke as it mostly spews a constant stream.

2. A driver wobbles

3. Front driver axle sometimes makes a clunk clunk clunk sound that one can hear and feel while running if you lightly touch the boiler.

4. The chuffing sounds are pretty low olume compared to the rest of the sounds.

After 3 or 4 weeks I got it back.

Lionel replaced the smoke unit fan and that was it. Said no clunking sound could be heard. Didn't mention the rest of the issues mentioned.

1st run out of the box it did the clunking thing. Sometimes it does sometimes not.

Overall I like the engine because of the Southern road name, hefty in weight, nice whistle and bell.

I know that a $500.00 may not be much as far as O gauge locomotives go and of course nothing is perfect. I thought it would be better than that or at least Lionel would repair and or recognize all of the issues.

I have a Lionchief 0-8-0 that came with a starter set. I really like it.  It only has one chuff per rev. Wish it was two. The front coupler isnt an operating coupler but it will couple to an operating one on a freight car. I use a ZW at 10 VAC for constant track power the Remote for it and get great slow  speed operation for switching.

I may just go with post war and err sound boards from now on. Reliable, easy to source parts, and easy to repair.

Haven't really decided at this point.

For now I'm going to run the locomotive and enjoy it.

I also have a Legacy E6 Atlantic, and it continually disconnects in Bluetooth. I have several Bluetooth engines from sets and they all run fine with the app. It will go nuts if trying to control another engine at the same time with the app. I took it to Gargraves and put on their test track and it ran fine with the app. Have been messaging back and forth with Lionel and no joy. Have resorted to running the Atlantic in TMCC for now. I have a Pennsy Berk 2.0+ on the way- we'll see what that does.
