I'm working on a LionMaster Big Boy that doesn't smoke. I check the resistor and it shows 6 plus ohms. I read 3 volts across it when turned on. I'm at a loss as to where to look next as Lionel doesn't have the board anymore. Has someone as a similar experience?

Well, if it has some voltage, is the fan running? Is the resistor getting hot at all?
The fan motor is running and the resistor get hot but I'm not sure if it is hot enough I can hold it between two fingers.
If the wiring is all secure from the smoke unit to the voltage regulator module, 99% chance that you need a new voltage regulator module. This is a fairly common failure.
What's the exact product number of this locomotive?
If this is the 6-11208 Legacy Lionmaster Big Boy, call Lionel and ask again. This question just came up for the same board and they didn't have them programmed, but they produced one for someone else here. Is this the board in question? This is the board that is managing the smoke.

John, that uses the older reg the one with 5 wires inside the shrink wrap. He has the 6-11149 with the modular boards. I agree with you and would replace the reg.
Just because on the drop down parts list an item states unavailable, do not buy that. I order and use these things often and purchased them recently.
On the order list click on search by name and number and then put in your part number then click search.
Lionel has them. Follow what I outlined and you will get your order in the system.

The product number is 6-11149. The resistor gets hot enough to burn your fingers. The fan motor runs and the resistor touches the batting material.
Is the batting the fiberglass pad. If so, throw it away. Use the 8 inch rope wicking 691SMKP008. Shread it like Mike Reagan shows in his video.
I didn't notice the topic, I just read the message and I saw no item number. New wick properly installed is obviously a good first step if the resistor is getting hot.

It was so I replaced it with the rope wicking. Still doesn't smoke. Checked again made sure the resistor got hot it did burned a finger. It is touching the wicking. The fan is working.

Do you know by chance where I can get a Reg? Lionel says they don't have them.
They claim to have it on their site. They probably send a compatible one from the text that redirects you.
This is the regulator they point you to, looks like they have it to me.

That reg is always in stock. I recently got a batch.
Yep, it's not like they never fail.
