I have a question about the background color of the round Lionel logo that goes on the rear of some tenders and on the front of a few locomotives and how/whether it should be consistent with the fittings.   The one shown below for example.

I ordered a few from a parts supplier as replacements for worn logos  for my Red comet restoration.  What I got had a nickel background.  Those on my Red Comet and all others that I have seen had a brass background.

Note that what I got are stick-on reproductions, not originals with metal tabs.  Are originals for this part not available ?

On reviewing Olsen's diagrams, I see something I missed - there are two part numbers - 259-LBR and 259-LN.  I had made the mistake of ordering LN.  Now I see the same dual part numbers for some of the other trim.

An obvious follow-up question is were the nickel background logos used with nickel parts and v.v. ?  But my 264E has nickel fittings and a brass logo.

I'd like to hear anyone's comments on this situation.

I believe that answers my Red Comet question.  I'm trying to do  correct restoration of the 264E and 261T.  They are light red with all nickel fittings except the logo which is brass.  From what rob says, it seems that I can feel confident that the brass logos are the original.  And I don't see how they could not be as it was obvious that I was the first one to remove the tabs since the set was made.

BTW in regard to tabs, I just posted a brief narrative of how to remove tabs on the standg list and I put a copy on this forum this evening.
