Well, I have a herd of NYC Hudsons, and can still be talked into one (just one?!) more, but
the theoretical new "Legacy Hudson" (I have 3 of the Lionel TMCC J3a's) would need
to be truly updated - as in what the NYC did to the real ones after a few years:
1 - Worthington FWH replacing the Elesco
2 - relocated power reverse gear
3 - partially relocated (raised) running board. engineer's side (see #2)
4 - PT tender (tooling DONE!)
5 - correct later lettering style (Gothic as opposed to Roman)
6 - correctly shaped headlight - this error exists on all Lionel un-streamlined J3a's
I am sure that Mr. H. Water can expand on this list of needed upgrades; this is off
the top of my head. Let's not forget that Selkirk smokebox front that appeared here and there.
This involves some new/changed tooling, but putting the PT behind the existing loco,
Legacy or not, won't get me to the cash register. Also, it's not that I prefer the later
look - I love both, the early a hair more - but these changes would be called for.
Properly done would indeed get me to drop the dough.
Hope that there's a Pilot version.
