These are must haves IMO as they would be the first of such since 2001. Does anyone know where they will be made this time...since the vendor in PA went out of business.

At a Lionel facility or a vendor? Details would be great. Maybe Lionel will provide some closer to it.
Man on the moon, now a plastic boxcar, what next?
The box will be cardboard....the car will be NASCAR !!!!
I for one will not make fun of Lionel for doing this. I hope the sell many of these cars and this begins the process of more Lionel product being made on-shore. Unfortunately those 4 cars for me are absolutely hideous.
Lionel, how about some of your great PS-1 cars manufactured in the U.S.A.?
Maybe Lionel ought to contract the job out to Weaver since they have it down pretty good at their facility.

I'm not making fun of Lionel for doing it, I'm just amazed at all the fuss over years now of this being announced. And you think they are hideous anyway,it's all too silly for words.

With the novelty of buying instant collectables worn off years ago, I'm wondering if folks are attracted to these cars for graphics & design or because Lionel found a supplier stateside?
In this global economy, its pretty silly to buy them only for where they're made.

I'm happy Lionel is bringing production to the USA. I hope it works out. But those boxcars aren't anything I want on my layout or in my collection.
Sorry for my moon landing conspiracy reply this morning. I had just got home from a 12 hour night shift and had consumed a few adult beverages. I was a sleepy happy guy typing away on my iPad. (Beer, bagel and the OGR forum for breakfast. Maybe it was my supper).
I thought a was a great line Mike.
Lionel had production samples of these cars with them at York. I took a good look at them, and they looked pretty good to me.

Are these still the presidential ones or is this something else?
These boxcars are the classic 6464 style retooled to the MPC flat sided car with fun graphics...so IMO its an iconic Lionel product.
Do you have a link to see these boxcars online?
My personal opinion: I would have let the entire project die a graceful death. Although "Made in the U.S.A." is certainly a worthy goal, boxcars named for a few presidents probably ain't gonna hack it on the "Wow!" scale.
If they can make these here, why not make some that are more in demand?
If they were scale cars I'd jump in line, but since their 6464 cars I'll save my $$$.
