Lionel has made 2 NS Southern Heritage Diesels: 6-38964 (#1894) & 6-38963 (#8099). Which one is the "true" Heritage unit? Or, were there 2 different units made by NS? Thanks. Tyler.

the 8099 was the number assigned to the NS Heritage unit in 2012. Lionel 1894 is a fantasy scheme numbered for the year Southern Railway was formed.

Lionel made 3 NS Heritage diesels for each roadname: 2 powered and 1 dummy, with sequentially numbered Lionel 6-dash SKU's. Don't hold me to it, but I'm pretty certain that the lowest SKU number in each triplet represents the "true" Heritage unit, and the second powered unit has a fantasy cab number representing an event special to that roadname.
