i just picked up this post-war classic for a deal and it came with other cars that may be part of the original set, which I think is 2527.  All cars likely needs some TLC so I have some work cut out for me to refurbish them.  It came unboxed so I don't have an instruction manual for the #44 U.S. Army mobile missile launcher?  Anyone have that?  Also, has anyone had to refurbish the #44 missile launcher and have any pointers on how to get it into good working shape?

I have the Lionel version of this but the modern remake know as Post war classic so I was trying to figure which you had with your wording, mine has TMCC. I'm thinking you mean the original from 1959 - 1962. I had that set also but no boxes.

I believe this is what both came with originally

 Lionel Missile Launch Set
44Mobile Missile Launcher With TMCC 6-18462
6823Flat with Rockets on it. 6-29409
6844Flat with 6 missiles on it 6-29410
3419Helicopter Launching Car 6-18891
6814Strecher Caboose 6-19788

For the motor/E-Unit, it is typical clean and lubrication work.  If the launcher is not working, it is likely that the foam strip has disintegrated.  There was an article in OGR a couple years back on replacing it with a piece of foam cut from a foam paint brush.  I have used soft foam from packing materials successfully to repair a couple.

You may be mistaken on the magazine as I wrote that article for the other magazine.

These are gold in my eyes; even though the engine could barely pull the set. I ran the engine alone and used the Army Alco or cast steam mostly. I guess the newer re-pops pull better (traction tires)

The caboose accessories in white are in the Coast Guard set 6-11905  (car #16577.. which I just broke the cabin on while getting the number off it) Two or three stretchers, oxegen tanks (2 molded as 1), A sitting "doctor" and a patient with bandaged head, arm in a sling, and possible broken leg laying down.  Maybe Lionel still has those parts ?

The black missle car's uprights are kinda delicate. Many are snapped off. Shell of the engine somewhat brittle. That helicopter is the best of them imo. The blade tip "jets" give a flywheel action to it's spin. (I racked my brain for hours as a kid trying to figure out how heavier blades worked better)

The 6650 is the launcher you want for the large missles, it is the cream of the land, sea, air items imo. It will match your copter flat.  (The Army Alco had the weird blue of the engine also fyi.  I think it was closer to "Army blue on steel" than the deep shade)

I bought the CG set just because the caboose was a near clone to the red cross version.  The fact it was on a cast flat and many other cars were so light, it also caused some issues stringlining cars in curves.

Still some of the best play value made imo.
