Was having some work done at our house yesterday and the workman noticed my train layout. He told me that his father has a Lionel set from the 50's that he runs around the tree every Christmas. Said he repairs the engine him self but had a train store rebuild his transformer.
When the father took the transformer to the train store they told him that they had never seen one like it before and suspected it was one that Lionel recalled because it was too powerful and hurt people. Apparently they did rebuild it. I suggested that it was a ZW by describing the two handles and he acknowledged that was what it looked like.
So, did Lionel produce a ZW or other transformer that was recalled? I had never heard of that before.
