Does anyone know if there is a book with the schematics and exploded diagrams of prewar Lionel? I would like to have this info on quite a few engines and such but at this moment specifically the 226e. I am looking for complete service info with all the part numbers etc, not just a general view. Many thanks for any info!

Prewar diagrams are here and there. Get copies as you find them. As to the 226e, it is straight forward. I just finished going through two of them.
The wire from the collector gets connected to the headlight, the fire box light, the e unit coil, and one of the outside contacts on the e unit four finger board. Some of these connections are made with a splice in the wires covered with fiber loom and some use the lug on the eunit switch board. There may be a loose wire connecting these two terminal locations. The other outside connection on the four finger board goes to the field. The center connection on the four finger board and the wire from the two finger board go to the two brush holders. The other field connection is grounded.
Back in the prewar days, Lionel only offered parts list for the most part. They rarely had wiring diagrams, if ever. And no exploded diagrams for assembly. (With the rare exception of the #55 airplane.) It was up to the repair person to figure out how everything went together.
Thank you!
