Lionel Reading Square Window Caboose Fit for TMCC?

I have the scale version of that caboose.  DO NOT use it with 18 volts.  Mine melted the roof.  You will need to add a resistor, or two, to knock the voltage down.  Maybe someone who has done this can tell you how much you need.

Do you have any idea where the resistor would have to go?

Also would the lights be fine if I just disconnected the smoke unit?  Or would they be blown out?

What some guys around here have done is create a string of diodes and connect them in line with the wire for the pick up roller.  Someone else is going to have to tell you diode value and how many, I would think 6 would be enough, that would drop it about 4 and 1/2 volts so you can reconnect the smoke unit.  I did this on my American Flyer engine when I changed it over to a S&S can motor, it ran so well that there was not enough voltage for the smoke unit, so Dallee told me what to do to drop the voltage to the motor, so thereby, I would have to increase the voltage to it to get smoke at the normal speed.  Gunrunner John can give you all the specs...

You might need to replace the interior light bulb or bulbs with a string of LED lights with resistors for AC power.

Since they're AC lights and smoke, you can simply put one diode in series with the pickup, that will chop the voltage down as you'll be running half-wave track power.  This is a different scenario as slowing down motors, those you need bi-polar voltage drops.
