Ok Earlier this week I took delivery of the Conrail OCS Passenger car Two pack #6-83601. IT consists of a research car Conrail #20 as well as Conrail Police #47004

Lionel-Conrail-2pk0001

Pretty Heavy for a plastic passenger car.

Lionel-Conrail-2pk0002

Has correct modern Rubber diaphrams

Looks like Lionel used a Budd Diner mold for this car. But here is what the former 1:1 looked like:

Lionel-Conrail-2pk0004

Definitely some kind of sound cam on the Police car yet no sound on-off switch. Just one for the lights.

Nice view of the Kinekematic coupler mechanism!

Next is the Research and Test car #20

Paint and Modern Diaphrams are top notch!

Here is the real 1:1

Comparing the ends with the Slumbercoach as well as the MTH OCS set

Note that MTH used Gold lettering while Lionel used the more correct Dulux Gold Lettering

MTH side doors open and spring close. Lionel doors do NOT open.

MTH used their "Cookie Cutter" streamlined passenger set for their Conrail OCS while Lionel tried to model the Real 1:1

This is what the Real Conrail #10 looked like:

Well at least they are Both "observation cars"

Comparing the Lettering on each car the the Microscale Decal Sheet.

Apparently Lionel's is the closest but the colors are still a bit off.

I can't wait to obtain the rest of the set arriving in a couple of weeks! Anyone else order this set?

Set arrived here a few weeks back and I love it. No issues to report with the cars except one wheel set is a bit loud. Bottom line is this set is everything I wanted out of a Lionel Conrail OCS set. I am also looking forward to the Superdome and Theater car arriving. Also looking at a baggage car to convert to OCS 23 which was the Track Geometry support car.

The icing on the cake would be a heavyweight observation to switch out with the theater car, but I'm thrilled with what we have so far.

A great set. My wishlist for Lionel is getting short.

Just as an FYI, unless I missed something, you were attempting to compare Lionel's delux gold to a decal.  I know from decaling my own cars, the color of the decal will change once it is applied to a painted surface.  I distinctly remember Champ in particular writing in the instructions that the "orange" decal would turn yellow once it was applied to  boxcar red freight car.  Lionel's color is probably what the decal will look like once it is applied.

Actually I was comparing the Decal color to the Lionel delux Gold and MTH Gold lettering versions so Forumites can see the differences. The MTH Gold lettering MTH used is more off from the prototype than the Lionel delux gold.
